Top 5 yoga studios to bust a move.
Treehouse is the spot for those who like their yoga with a view. The 3rd floor location with floor to ceiling windows gives yogis a gorgeous vista of trees that earns the studio its name. Treehouse is a 100% donation based studio, where students can pay what they can for class. They offer both regular and heated vinyasa classes for those who like it hot. Or, try out Vin + Yin – a combination of vinyasa and yin style yoga for relaxation and restoration.
Define Body & Mind
With locations on S. Lamar and on 35th st., Define has your locale covered. Their offerings have a little something for everyone. Whether you prefer spinning, traditional yoga, barre style classes, or even working out on a trampoline (yes, that right, trampoline!!), you can find the perfect way to get your sweat on. My personal favorite class is Define Mind – an hour and fifteen minutes of hammock yoga. You’ll invert to reverse your blood flow and use your hammock to stretch. It’s restorative for the body and mind. Give it a try – you’ll walk out on cloud nine!
Stretch is one of Austin’s newest yoga gems. They’re our neighbors on East 6th, so you can catch a class after you finish your apartment hunt with Austin Craft Realty. They have a baller deal for new students - you can get a unlimited month of yoga for just 35 bucks! Classes follow 3 styles – stretch, power stretch, and deep stretch, so you can choose the level of intensity you’d like for your flow. They even do sunset rooftop classes with headphones once a month. If that’s your jam, look out for the next “blissful beats” event!
Black Swan Yoga is a Texas-based studio with an impressive roster of teachers who each bring their own style to the table. Austin boasts 3 locations – downtown, south at Westgate, and north at Anderson lane. If you’re all over this town but want a consistent yoga home, BYS just might be your winner. Not to mention, there are as many as 10 classes a day at each studio, so you’ll certainly find one that works with your busy schedule. Classes are heated to 85-90 degrees, so get ready to sweat!
Sukha yoga is Austin home-grown on S. Lamar. Their classes are primarily vinyasa with some yin offerings as well plus a variety of immersions and workshops. The studio space is super serene. Stick around for a few minutes after class to explore the goodies for sale in the shop/lobby. Be careful though, you will likely be so charmed that you’ll want to stay all day!
